WW2 German, American and British WW2 Whistles - Video
Here is a short, yet informative video as a starter on British, American and German WW2 whistles. All the information is correct as far as we can see (other than they are all ww2 whistles) and Tom gives a good summary of each whistle.
The whistles covered are the USA Bakelite unmarked 'Thunderer' type; the British Metropolitan type; the German Bakelite whistle; the American 'Military' Thunderer type and the British ACME Thunderer. Courtesy of Tom from Antiqueoutings.com. |

Lee Miller - US Photographer - How Lee Miller photographed a woman’s war
Photographer Lee Miller moved to Hampstead on the day World War II broke out.
As one of only four female photojournalists accredited as US war correspondents, the six-year conflict would both make and break her; bring her a liberation and career few women of her era could dream of, then wash her back up with post traumatic stress as the glass ceiling crashed back down. “The war granted her the opportunity to fulfil her potential and gave her a sense of freedom she never had at any other point in her life,” says Hilary Roberts curator of a new exhibition on Miller at the Imperial War Museum. Picture of young lady using an ACME WW2 Whistle.
This is a period WWII staged photograph. We think this is a Fire Warden picture although it could be a Fire Brigade picture. Women did not serve as firefighters during WWII, however they did serve in the various Fire Forces as administration, messengers, coordination and headquarters staff. The picture is dated 1940. |
