Our dog tags are made of solid zinc, just like the originals, they are the same size and form of originals. Worn round the neck with a chain, cord or string on the two hole side, the idea being that if a POW died the dog tag would be snapped off and the side with one hole is kept with the POW's records and the two hole side kept with the POW.
The come stamped with 'Nr. :' and the three embossed lines each side. The 'Nr.:' is short for 'Number',where the prisoners number would be stamped. We have changed some minor details to prevent them being passed as originals.
Zinc does not rust but it does age over time - so even new tags will have some imperfections. You can polish the tag with vinegar and wire wool or strong cloth if you want a nice bright finish. See picture where we have half cleaned an aged identification tag.
You can have these in new or aged condition and unmarked or marked with the Stalag, Stalag Luft, Oflag and Oflag Luft of your choice. Email us before ordering so we can agree the wording on your dog tag. Tell us the type of camp, camp number and prisoner number and we can take it from there!
You can get more information on the POW Camps in WW2 here.
The whistle is not included you can buy this separately!
